Zack Gelof
Zack Gelof Feels healthy for spring
Wed, Feb 11, 2026, 3:03 PM
Gelof (shoulder) said Wednesday that he's "feeling healthy, feeling ready to go" and expects to be a full participant when he reports to spring training later this week, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
Analysis: After posting 14 home runs and 14 steals in just 69 games as a rookie in 2023, Gelof looked to be a central figure in the Athletics' rebuilding effort, but injuries and an ability to make consistent contact against big-league pitching have left his future murky. He didn't make his 2025 big-league debut until early July while recovering from a fractured bone in his right wrist and a stress reaction in his ribs, then slashed just .174/.230/.272 with a 45.5 percent strikeout rate over 101 plate appearances between two stints with the Athletics before he was shut down in late September due to a dislocated left shoulder. He appears to be healthy again following surgery on the shoulder, but Gelof may need a strong showing at the plate during Cactus League play to make a compelling case for a spot on the Athletics' Opening Day roster.
Mitch Spence
Mitch Spence Pushed off 40-man
Tue, Feb 10, 2026, 5:08 PM
The Athletics designated Spence for assignment Tuesday.
Analysis: With Scott Barlow and Aaron Civale officially signing one-year deals with the A's on Tuesday, Spence and Grant Holman (finger) will both lose their place on the 40-man roster. Spence made 32 appearances (eight starts) with the Athletics in 2025, turning in a 5.10 ERA and 1.44 WHIP to go with a 66:26 K:BB through 84.2 innings. Assuming he clears waivers, the 27-year-old righty will open the season at Triple-A Las Vegas.
Grant Holman
Grant Holman Designated for assignment
Tue, Feb 10, 2026, 5:05 PM
The Athletics designated Holman (finger) for assignment Tuesday.
Analysis: Holman and Mitch Spence will both lose their places on the 40-man roster to make room for new signees Scott Barlow and Aaron Civale. Holman posted a 5.09 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 23 innings with the A's in 2025 before suffering a season-ending finger injury in June. It's unclear where he stands in his recovery, but he now seems likely to open the new season in the minor leagues.
Aaron Civale
Aaron Civale Lands in Sacramento
Tue, Feb 10, 2026, 10:22 AM
Civale agreed to a one-year $6 million contract with the A's on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: The 30-year-old right-hander split the 2025 campaign between the Brewers, White Sox and Cubs, finishing the regular season with a 4.85 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 88:33 K:BB across 102 innings. Civale started in 18 of those 23 appearances last year and is a safe bet to work out of the Athletics' rotation, providing another veteran presence in a unit that's unsettled at the back end.
Scott Barlow
Scott Barlow Nets one-year deal with Athletics
Fri, Feb 6, 2026, 3:32 PM
The Athletics signed Barlow to a one-year, $2 million contract Friday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: He will have the opportunity to earn an additional $1.3 million in incentives. Barlow spent the 2025 season with the Reds, finishing the regular season with a 4.21 ERA and 75:45 K:BB over 68.1 innings. The 33-year-old hasn't had an ERA below 4.21 or WHIP below 1.36 since 2022, but with 59 career saves, Barlow has easily the most closer experience on the Athletics' roster. That alone should put him in the mix for saves, but even if Barlow wins the job, he'd be a poor bet to retain it.
Max Schuemann
Max Schuemann DFA'd by A's
Fri, Feb 6, 2026, 1:25 PM
The Athletics designated Schuemann for assignment on Friday.
Analysis: Schuemann will lose his spot on the 40-man roster for the A's to claim Andy Ibanez off waivers. Schuemann appeared in 101 big-league games last season, slashing .197/.295/.273 with two home runs, seven stolen bases, 13 RBI, 20 runs scored and a 22:35 BB:K across 213 plate appearances.
Andy Ibanez
Andy Ibanez Claimed by Athletics
Fri, Feb 6, 2026, 12:15 PM
The Athletics claimed Ibanez off waivers from the Dodgers on Friday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Analysis: The Dodgers signed Ibanez to a one-year, $1.2 million contract in early January but then designated him for assignment less than a month later. He'll now head to the Athletics and should be in the mix for playing time at third base. Ibanez holds a career .280/.327/.452 slash line versus left-handed pitching.
Jacob Wilson
Jacob Wilson Signs seven-year, $70M extension
Fri, Jan 30, 2026, 1:55 PM
The Athletics signed Wilson to a seven-year, $70 million contract extension Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The deal includes a club option for 2033.
Analysis: Wilson finished runner-up to teammate Nick Kurtz in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2025 after slashing .311/.355/.444 with 13 home runs, five stolen bases and a 27:39 BB:K over 125 contests in his first full major-league season. The 23-year-old's upside is capped due to his lack of power and mediocre defense at shortstop, but Wilson has some of the best contact skills in the game. It's a contract that should turn out to be very team-friendly as long as he stays healthy.
Jacob Wilson
Jacob Wilson Working on bulking up
Thu, Jan 29, 2026, 1:01 PM
Wilson said earlier this month that adding strength has "been the main focus for the last couple of offseasons now," Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Wilson showed a little more pop than expected in 2025, slugging 13 home runs. Power is considered the weakest part of his offensive game, though, so he's working on adding a little bulk this winter. Still, fantasy managers should consider it a bonus if they get double-digit home runs out of Wilson again in 2026, as he is most likely to provide an elite batting average but not much else.
Chad Wallach
Chad Wallach Lands with A's on MiLB deal
Fri, Jan 23, 2026, 9:56 PM
Wallach signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Sunday.
Analysis: Wallach spent time with the Rangers' and Angels' Triple-A affiliates in 2025 and slashed .248/.319/.430 with 43 RBI and 33 runs scored across 259 plate appearances. The 34-year-old backstop hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2023, and he'll likely remain a depth piece at Triple-A Las Vegas in 2026.
Bryan Lavastida
Bryan Lavastida Re-signs with Athletics
Tue, Jan 13, 2026, 1:22 PM
The Athletics re-signed Lavastida to a minor-league contract Dec. 18.
Analysis: Lavastida split the 2025 season between the Astros and Athletics minor-league systems, hitting .279/.362/.438 with 10 homers in 89 games. The 27-year-old's only major-league experience came back in 2022, and he is merely organizational depth for the A's.
Brooks Kriske
Brooks Kriske Signs minors deal with Athletics
Tue, Jan 13, 2026, 1:15 PM
The Athletics signed Kriske to a minor-league contract Dec. 12.
Analysis: Kriske made 16 relief appearances between the Cubs and Twins this past season, posting a 7.50 ERA and 18:15 K:BB across 18 frames. Slated to turn 32 in February, Kriske will give the A's some experienced relief depth.
Shea Langeliers
Shea Langeliers Settles with A's
Thu, Jan 8, 2026, 12:42 PM
Langeliers signed a one-year, $5.25 million contract with the Athletics on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: Langeliers emerged as one of the top bats in the Athletics' lineup in 2025 while slashing .277/.325/.536 with 31 homers, 72 RBI, 73 runs scored and seven steals across 123 contests. He'll take a $4.48 million raise into his fifth MLB season as a result while maintaining a firm grip on the starting catcher job in Sacramento.
Brian Serven
Brian Serven Catches on with Athletics
Mon, Jan 5, 2026, 11:36 AM
The Athletics signed Serven to a minor-league contract Dec. 19.
Analysis: Serven has slashed .187/.247/.293 in 101 games over parts of three big-league seasons. The 30-year-old collected a .648 OPS over 62 contests at Triple-A Toledo in the Tigers organization in 2025. Serven will give the Athletics some experienced catching depth at Triple-A Las Vegas.
Cade Marlowe
Cade Marlowe Goes to A's on MiLB pact
Mon, Jan 5, 2026, 11:32 AM
The Athletics signed Marlowe to a minor-league contract Dec. 19.
Analysis: Marlowe was removed from the Mariners' 40-man roster prior to the 2025 season and wound up spending all of the year in the minors, slashing .316/.401/.474 in 46 games with Triple-A Tacoma. The 28-year-old can handle all three outfield spots and will give the Athletics some experienced depth.
Nick Hernandez
Nick Hernandez Nabs minors deal from A's
Tue, Dec 30, 2025, 4:21 PM
Hernandez signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Tuesday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Analysis: Hernandez hasn't been able to find his footing in the big leagues just yet, as he carries a 7.06 ERA over 21.2 career MLB innings. However, he turned in an impressive 2.12 ERA and 1.02 with a 63:22 K:BB over 46.2 innings this past season while pitching for Houston's Triple-A affiliate in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. His impressive campaign will now buy him an audition with the Athletics, and a few more strong performances could allow him to return to the majors in 2026.
Tyler Soderstrom
Tyler Soderstrom Inks $86 million contract extension
Thu, Dec 25, 2025, 2:45 PM
The Athletics signed Soderstrom to a seven-year, $86 million contract extension Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The deal includes a club option for 2033.
Analysis: The deal buys out at least three free-agent years and can max out at $131 million if Soderstrom reaches all of the escalators in the contract. Soderstrom broke out in 2025 in his first full major-league season, slashing .276/.346/.474 with 25 home runs and 93 RBI. He also learned to play left field on the fly and took to it surprisingly well, finishing as a Gold Glove finalist. Soderstrom will be only 31 in the final year of the contract if the Athletics pick up his option, so it's a deal that is likely to be very team-friendly if he continues his upward trajectory.
Ken Waldichuk
Ken Waldichuk Scrubbed from 40-man roster
Mon, Dec 22, 2025, 3:24 PM
The Athletics designated Waldichuk for assignment Monday.
Analysis: The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Jeff McNeil (shoulder), who was acquired via trade. Waldichuk missed all of 2024 and the first half of 2025 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he posted an 8.65 ERA, 2.06 WHIP and 64:42 K:BB across 51 innings this past season at Triple-A Las Vegas. The lefty will turn 28 in January and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2023, but with a career 33.9 percent strikeout rate in the minors and team control through 2029, he could draw interest via trade or waivers.
Jeff McNeil
Jeff McNeil Shipped to Athletics
Mon, Dec 22, 2025, 2:29 PM
The Athletics acquired McNeil (shoulder) and cash considerations from the Mets on Monday in exchange for Yordan Rodriguez, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: McNeil finished the 2025 season with a .243/.335/.411 batting line and 12 home runs over 462 plate appearances, which was his best offensive season since he made the All-Star team and won the National League batting title in 2022. He underwent thoracic outlet surgery after this past season but is expected to be ready for spring training. Slated to turn 34 just after Opening Day, McNeil will take over as the Athletics' starting second baseman and will get a boost with a move from Citi Field to Sutter Health Park.
Joel Kuhnel
Joel Kuhnel Nabs MiLB deal from Athletics
Wed, Dec 17, 2025, 12:33 PM
The Athletics signed Kuhnel to a minor-league contract Tuesday.
Analysis: Kuhnel spent all of the 2025 season at the Triple-A level in the Phillies and Yankees organizations. The big right-hander holds a career 5.86 ERA and 76:24 K:BB over 93.2 frames covering parts of five big-league seasons. Kuhnel will likely begin the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Las Vegas.
