Lawrence Butler
Lawrence Butler Undergoes patellar tendon surgery
Fri, Oct 3, 2025, 2:10 PM
Butler underwent surgery Friday to repair a tear in his right patellar tendon.
Analysis: Butler also had a debridement of chronic scar tissue in his right knee and received a platelet-rich plasma injection to combat chronic tendinitis in his left patellar tendon. The expectation is that he will be ready to go for spring training. Butler played through knee issues down the stretch of the 2025 season, but the hope is that the procedures performed Friday will allow him to put his knee problems behind him. The 25-year-old slashed .234/.306/.404 with 21 home runs and 22 stolen bases over 152 games this season.

Lawrence Butler Could require knee surgery
Tue, Sep 30, 2025, 12:31 PM
Butler will meet with a doctor to determine whether surgery is required to repair a patellar tendon strain in his right knee, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Butler played through the injury for the last couple weeks of the regular season. If he does need surgery on the knee, it's unclear at this juncture how long his rehab would take. Butler finished the 2025 campaign having slashed .234/.306/.404 with 21 home runs and 22 stolen bases over 152 contests.
Brady Basso
Brady Basso Takes loss as opener
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 8:14 AM
Basso (1-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing a run on three hits and two walks over 1.1 innings against Kansas City. He recorded no strikeouts.
Analysis: The 27-year-old opened the game Sunday but couldn't find a rhythm, loading the bases before exiting in the second inning with one out. Tyler Ferguson then allowed an inherited runner to score. Basso didn't make his first big-league appearance of the year until Aug. 27 after dealing with a left shoulder strain and beginning with Triple-A Las Vegas. He managed strong results with a 2.31 ERA across 11 outings and 11.2 innings, though a 1.80 WHIP, 4.07 FIP and 6.9 BB/9 suggest trouble beneath the surface.
Nick Kurtz
Nick Kurtz Caps off season with 36th homer
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 7:13 AM
Kurtz went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 9-2 loss against the Royals.
Analysis: The rookie slugger provided Oakland's only offense of the night with a 423-foot blast off Sam Long in the eighth inning, marking his 36th homer of the season and his seventh since September 10. Over that span, he hit .233 with 13 RBI while continuing to show his game-changing power. Kurtz looks like the clear favorite for AL Rookie of the Year honors, as he'll finish the regular season with an impressive .290/.383/.619 slash line, 26 doubles, 86 RBI and 90 runs scored to go along with his outstanding long-ball total across 488 plate appearances.
Jacob Wilson
Jacob Wilson Idle for season finale
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 12:34 PM
Wilson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: Unless he's called upon off the bench as a pinch hitter, Wilson will wrap up his first full big-league season with a .311/.355/.444 slash line, 13 home runs, five stolen bases, 63 RBI and 62 runs in 125 games. Max Muncy will step in for Wilson at shortstop in the finale.
Shea Langeliers
Shea Langeliers Receiving rest Sunday
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 12:32 PM
Langeliers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: The 76-85 Athletics have little at stake in the season finale and will allow Langeliers to get some rest after he had started each of the last five contests. The 27-year-old backstop will finish his fourth MLB campaign with a .277/.325/.536 slash line, 31 home runs, seven stolen bases, 73 runs and 72 RBI in 123 games.
Michael Kelly
Michael Kelly Strong run continues
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 9:42 AM
Kelly allowed no hits and a walk with no strikeouts over a scoreless inning in Saturday's 4-2 loss against the Royals.
Analysis: Kelly worked a scoreless seventh inning while issuing just a walk to Mike Yastrzemski. The right-hander has been excellent in September, posting a 1.93 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 11 outings, including seven straight appearances without an earned run -- his longest streak since opening the year with 10 consecutive scoreless frames. Overall, the 33-year-old owns a 2.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 41 appearances and 39.1 innings this season.
Elvis Alvarado
Elvis Alvarado Strong finish to season
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 9:31 AM
Alvarado allowed no hits and a walk with no strikeouts over 1.1 scoreless innings Saturday against Kansas City.
Analysis: Alvarado entered in the fifth inning and recorded the final out of the frame, then worked through the sixth while allowing just one baserunner. The hard-throwing righty has been sharp down the stretch, tossing 6.1 scoreless innings over his past five appearances and posting a 1.86 ERA across nine outings in September. In his rookie season, he owns a 3.27 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across 36 appearances and 41.1 innings.
Brady Basso
Brady Basso Opening Sunday's contest
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 8:52 AM
Basso will serve as the Athletics' opening pitcher in Sunday's game against the Royals, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The Athletics won't have Jeffrey Springs make his normally scheduled start in the season finale, so Basso will take the mound first in what's expected to be a bullpen day. Basso made four starts for the Athletics in 2024 but has worked exclusively as a reliever in 2025. He's eclipsed two innings in just one of his 18 appearances between the majors and minors this season, so he's unlikely to work more than once through the batting order Sunday.
Brett Harris
Brett Harris Sitting down Saturday
Sat, Sep 27, 2025, 6:18 PM
Harris isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.
Analysis: After having his four-game hitting streak snapped Friday, Harris will retreat to the dugout to begin the Athletics' penultimate regular-season contest. Darell Hernaiz will slide over to third base as a result, clearing second for Max Schuemann.
Shea Langeliers
Shea Langeliers Logs four more hits Thursday
Thu, Sep 25, 2025, 6:52 PM
Langeliers went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored during the Athletics' 11-5 loss to the Astros on Thursday.
Analysis: Langeliers maintained his hot streak at the plate by collecting four hits for a second consecutive game and combined with Nick Kurtz for seven of the Athletics' 12 hits in Thursday's loss. Langeliers' efforts over his last two games has improved his season-long ERA to .271 (over 514 plate appearances), but his stats after the All-Star break have been impressive, batting .319/.360/.646 with 19 home runs and 39 RBI over 55 games. The 27-year-old catcher will look to end the 2025 season on a high note during the Athletics' three-game weekend home series against the Royals.
Nick Kurtz
Nick Kurtz Slogs two homers vs. Astros
Thu, Sep 25, 2025, 6:41 PM
Kurtz went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI during the Athletics' 11-5 loss to the Astros.
Analysis: The Athletics trailed by as many as 10 runs in Thursday's contest, but Kurtz gave the home fans something to cheer for with a solo homer in the sixth inning and a two-run shot in the eighth. It was Kurtz's third multi-homer game of the season, and his 35 long shots leads all rookies and is 12th most in the majors. He has a 1.010 OPS in 477 plate appearances this season, which ranks second in the majors behind Aaron Judge (1.140).
J.T. Ginn
J.T. Ginn Rocked for seven runs in loss
Thu, Sep 25, 2025, 6:37 PM
Ginn (4-7) took the loss against the Astros on Thursday, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four across 3.2 innings.
Analysis: It was a rough final outing of the season for Ginn, who gave up five runs through the first two innings before yielding two more runs in the fourth frame. He managed to generate 13 whiffs on 81 pitches (47 strikes), but the seven runs he gave up were his most of the season. It's a disappointing end to the 2025 campaign for Ginn, who entered Thursday's contest having yielded two earned runs or less in each of his last three starts. With the Athletics eliminated from playoff contention, Ginn will end the season with a 5.08 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 99:31 K:BB across 90.1 innings.
Lawrence Butler
Lawrence Butler Out of lineup versus left-hander
Thu, Sep 25, 2025, 11:54 AM
Butler is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.
Analysis: Butler will get a day off as the Astros send left-hander Framber Valdez to the bump. Colby Thomas will occupy center field and bat fifth for the Athletics.
Darell Hernaiz
Darell Hernaiz Idle Wednesday
Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 5:12 PM
Hernaiz isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus Houston.
Analysis: Hernaiz will grab a seat on the bench Wednesday after going 1-for-13 over his last four games. His absence will allow Max Schuemann to start at the keystone and bat seventh.
Zack Gelof
Zack Gelof Undergoes surgery on shoulder
Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 4:56 PM
Gelof successfully underwent surgery on his left shoulder Wednesday, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
Analysis: Gelof dislocated his left shoulder while diving for a grounder in the fifth inning of Friday's game against the Pirates. Now that he's undergone surgery, Gelof will turn his attention towards being ready for the start of spring training. He appeared in 30 games for the Athletics this season and finished with a .174/.230/.272 slash line with one steal, 12 runs, two homers and seven RBI in 101 plate appearances.
Tyler Ferguson
Tyler Ferguson Works two scoreless frames
Wed, Sep 24, 2025, 8:48 AM
Ferguson threw two perfect innings, striking out two and earning a hold in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over the Astros.
Analysis: Ferguson was sharp, retiring all six batters he faced in his first two-inning outing since May 21. The right-hander has been solid in September, posting a 2.89 ERA and 0.75 WHIP across eight appearances and 9.1 innings. His season line of a 4.79 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 54 outings and 56.1 innings looks rougher, but those numbers are heavily skewed by two blowup appearances on May 14 and June 18, when Ferguson allowed a total of 11 runs.
Denzel Clarke
Denzel Clarke Beginning rehab assignment
Tue, Sep 23, 2025, 3:37 PM
Clarke (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Clarke hasn't played with the Athletics since July 20 due to a right adductor strain. It's unclear if he'll be able to make it back to the MLB lineup before Sunday's regular-season finale against the Royals. Las Vegas faces Tacoma in Game 1 of the PCL Championship on Tuesday, so Clarke will get some game action in the minors. The rookie center fielder has slashed .230/.274/.372 with three home runs, eight RBI, 18 runs scored, six stolen bases and a 6:61 BB:K across 159 big-league plate appearances this season.
Mitch Spence
Mitch Spence Rough outing vs. Pirates
Sun, Sep 21, 2025, 3:41 PM
Spence (3-6) took the loss Sunday against the Pirates, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out one.
Analysis: Spence struggled out of the gate Sunday, allowing a pair of two-out runs in the opening inning before the Pirates added on with a two-run homer in the second. It's the first start and second appearance for Spence since he was recalled from Triple-A earlier this month. Overall, the right-hander sports a 4.96 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP and 65 strikeouts across 81.2 innings this year.
Brett Harris
Brett Harris Losing out on playing time
Sun, Sep 21, 2025, 12:30 PM
Harris is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.
Analysis: Harris is on the bench for the third time in four matchups against a right-handed starting pitcher. With the Athletics bringing Max Muncy back from the injured list Saturday, Harris doesn't look as though he'll have a path to an everyday role in the final week of the season.
